It sports all of the same high-end features as Sprint's PPC-6700 smart phone: EV-DO, Wi-Fi, and a 1.3-megapixel camera, plus a cool rubberized finish that's easier to grip. It even downloaded Web pages faster in our side-by-side tests and is $50 cheaper. So why isn't the XV6700 our Editors' Choice? Because the Verizon Wireless version of this device doesn't allow you to have the Wi-Fi and cellular radios powered on simultaneously, which means you can't make or receive calls while you're surfing the Web at a hotspot or on your home or office network. The PPC-6700 doesn't suffer from the same limitation. When you consider that Verizon's unlimited data plan costs $49.99 per month compared with $15 for Sprint and that Sprint allows customers to use its device as a modem for their laptop (for only $10 extra per month), it's easy to see which option makes more sense.
