At 1.8 pounds, the Philips DGX320 speakers are the heaviest portables in this roundup, but the company devised a pretty clever way to take them with you. The bottoms of the speakers clip together, the cord that connects them safely wraps up in the space between the two, and the USB cable wraps around the whole package. Having the speakers together is a handy option while in transit, but the combined size of the speakers laid end-to-end isn't especially spatially economic when compared to the other four sets that come with their own carrying cases.

The DGX320s offer good audio quality, ranking in the middle of our tests. They got quite loud when we pushed them to their limit, without ever really distorting the sound. After playing around with the Altec Lansing and Logitech models, the lack of lows and highs was quiet noticeable. For a 1.8-pound setup, Philips DGX320 speakers pump out plenty of volume at a reasonable price.
