If you're reading this chances are you typed 'Google' into your search bar at some point today. But hakia is building the Web's new "meaning-based" search engine with the hopes that you'll start to type 'hakia' into your address bar when you are looking for information. With the sole purpose of improving search relevancy and interactivity, hakia is designing a search engine that returns information that is the most relevant to you and avoids having to sift through long lists of links.
Recently, hakia announced that they have recruited college students, from Maine to California, to beta test the search site and contribute to its development.
Recently, hakia announced that they have recruited college students, from Maine to California, to beta test the search site and contribute to its development.
We did a little beta testing of our own by going to hakia.com and conducting some simple searches. For almost every search we did hakia provides you with a gallery option that sorts the information you are looking for into categories. For instance we typed in "laptop." The search engine divided the results into categories including: profiles on laptops, laptop reviews, laptops by brand, laptop accessories and more. Rather than just listing a set of links that might be related to your search, like Google, hakia attempts to give the searcher some specific grouped results.
Right now the meaning-based search engine is seeking students to join the "hakia Beta Squad," and contribute even more meaning to the results of users' queries. Hakia plans to debut its full-capacity search engine sometime this year.
