Finding music free from DRM (digital rights management) is about to get easier. Amazon.com announced today that it will launch a digital music store later this year offering millions of songs in DRM-free MP3 format from more than 12,000 record labels. EMI Music's digital catalog is the latest addition to the store.
Songs and albums in the Amazon.com digital music store will be available in MP3 format without DRM software. Amazon's DRM-free MP3s will allow customers to play their music on any of their personal devices--including PCs and Macs, iPods, and Zunes--and burn songs to CDs for personal use.
Amazon.com follows iTunes in providing DRM-free music. The Amazon.com store will launch later this year.
