Today TiVo introduced the TiVo Series3 HD Digital Media recorder, which is the company's first stand-alone HD TiVo product and the world's first THX Certified DVR.

THX and Tivo collaborated to design a HD DVR that delivers a true to broadcast experience. THX certification-born out of George "Stars Wars" Lucas' vision to improve the movie-going experience-ensures that visual quality won't be compressed when recording hi-def or standard-def content. TiVo Series3 is compatible with digital cable, analog cable, and it's the first TiVo Box to support ATSC over-the-air digital broadcasts.

The new TiVo box has a 250GB hard drive for recording 35 hours of HD content or 300 hours of SD content. Dual tuners allow users to record to HD programs simultaneously while watching a third pre-recorded show.

Later this year, TiVo Series3 will support the recently released TiVoCast service which allows users to access content through their broadband connection. TiVo users can view slideshows from Yahoo! Photos, buy movie tickets from Fandango, listen to podcasts, and schedule recording sessions through select Verizon Wireless phones.

TiVo Series3 is available now for $799.
