If you're in the market for a projector, you're in luck. Manufacturers have made significant strides in usability, brightness, and image quality. At the same time, projectors are selling faster than ever thanks to unprecedented low prices. This in turn leads to even lower prices, a downward spiral you've got to love.

After stabilizing briefly around the $999 mark, entry-level projector prices have continued their steady march south, passing the $800 floor. One model has already dropped below $750.

Keep in mind that these bargain basement projectors feature SVGA resolution (800 x 600 pixels). Many users prefer the higher XGA resolution (1024 x 768 pixels), which provides a better match for the native resolution on our laptops. The good news is that even XGA category prices have dropped precipitously. Once stalled at the $1,600 mark, some XGA projectors are now selling for less than $1,200, and a few experts predict that they may fall to $999 by year's end.
