Wi-Fi Troubleshooting Guide
Network giving you a headache? We've got the cure right here.
by John Brandon From December 2004 issue of LAPTOP magazine
For the most part, Wi-Fi
is a wonderfully reliable technology. Every day, laptop users tap into
802.11b and 802.11g networks without any problems. The over-the-air equivalent
to an Ethernet connection is so reliable that, for most of us, a connection
issue comes as a surprise. Still, there are times when speeds suddenly
drop to an unbearable level, authentication errors appear onscreen, or the
site you’re visiting inexplicably stalls or fails altogether. Fortunately,
fixing a Wi-Fi problem is not overly complicated. In fact, most issues
fall into three broad categories: problems connecting initially, throughput
and connection speed problems, and coverage issues. Before you give up an
hour of your life waiting on hold for tech support, use this troubleshooting
guide and your network will be back to full strength in no time. Featured Site Sponsors
