Vista has been designed to be totally Internet-centric. Accordingly, just about every function operates from a browser-style address bar. This can confound those who simply want to save a file. First, remember the top bar in the Save As window is now an address search field (whether that address is on the Web or on your notebook).

1. Click the down arrow and you'll see Web addresses you've visited recently and folders that are either a default location for the application you're in or the location where you last saved a file.

2. Of course, you can't save to a Web address. Instead, to save your file in the folder you want, click the Browse Folders down arrow on the bottom left of the Save As dialog box.

3. You can then choose the destination folder. The next time you save a file, that location should automatically appear in the search bar.
