The question we're most frequently asked is, "What notebook should I buy? I don't want to spend much money. I just need to check my e-mail, surf the Internet, and use Word." Well, we can do better than that. Four of the systems tested, from Acer, Gateway, HP, and Toshiba display what was the pinnacle of computing power not too long ago. Each company put their best foot forward in providing the most bang for your buck. We also reviewed two sub-$600 systems to show what you get when you go even lower. And in case you're wondering where Dell is, we didn't forget them--they didn't have a system to contribute at press time. Among those here, you'll find big, bright screens, a webcam, Bluetooth, speedy wireless connections, and even some cool designs. Okay, maybe not all those features in one notebook, but still. No one has to know you got your system for a steal, and we won't tell a soul.
